Professor Ian Givens

Professor Ian Givens (animal nutrition) is Professor of Food Chain Nutrition and Director of the Food Production and Quality Division at the University of Reading, School of Agriculture, Policy and Development. He is also an Associate of the University’s Centre for Food Security and leads the Centre’s research theme of ‘Lipids in the Food Chain’.

Within the University his research focuses on the impact of animal-derived foods on chronic disease in humans and the potential for their composition to be improved. Recent work includes the effect of milk and dairy products on the risk of cardiovascular disease with emphasis on the role of milk lipids and proteins. He is a member of several Scientific Advisory Committees including that of the British Nutrition Foundation and a member of the External Advisory Committee of the University College Dublin Institute of Food and Health.
